Toolbars, search hijackers, bundled installers, coupon injectors, tracking junk and the general sediment that accumulates on a family machine over a couple of years. The full scan is fast because it targets the places that material actually hides rather than reading every file on the disk.
The premium configuration is enabled in this build, which turns the application from a cleanup tool run by hand into a resident one. Real time file and web protection, ransomware behaviour monitoring, exploit mitigation on browsers and document readers, and scheduled scanning all become available. The free build only scans when told to.
It is designed to sit alongside an existing antivirus rather than replace it, and in practice that is how most people run it. The two engines watch for different things and the exclusion handling is deliberately quiet about it. There is also a rollback feature that reverses file changes made by a detected ransomware process, which is the sort of thing that only matters once but matters enormously then.

Installation
- Remove any previous Malwarebytes installation before starting.
- Extract the archive and run the installer.
- Do not launch the application yet, apply the included configuration step first.
- Open the dashboard and confirm all four protection layers report as on.
- Disable the automatic component updater in settings.
Before you start
Component updates replace the configuration, turn them off before the first restart.
Rollback only covers the retention window, it is not a backup and should not be treated as one.
If a second resident scanner starts fighting it, add mutual exclusions rather than turning either one off entirely.
