Overview
Edge runs on the same Chromium engine as most other browsers, which means site compatibility is not a question and extensions from the Chrome catalogue install without any conversion step. What differs is the shell built on top, and a few of those additions have quietly become the reason people stay on it.
Vertical tabs are the obvious one. With thirty tabs open a horizontal strip is useless, and moving the strip to the side with collapsible groups makes a heavy session navigable again. Sleeping tabs suspend background pages and give the memory back, which on a machine with eight gigabytes is the difference between a browser and a swap file. Workspaces keep separate sets of tabs for separate jobs without juggling windows.
The rest is standard but complete: tracking prevention with three strictness levels, a password and payment store, a PDF viewer with annotation and read aloud, an immersive reader that strips a page down to text, collections for gathering research across sites, and policy support for anyone managing machines centrally. This package is the full offline installer rather than the small stub that downloads the browser at run time.
What it does well
Vertical tabs and workspaces
Move the tab strip to the side with collapsible groups, and keep separate tab sets per project without opening a second window.
Sleeping tabs
Background pages suspend after an idle period and release their memory, then restore on click without losing state.
Tracking prevention
Three strictness levels covering trackers across sites, with per-site exceptions and a clear report of what was blocked.
Reading and PDF tools
Immersive reader strips a page to text with adjustable spacing, and the PDF viewer handles annotation, form filling and read aloud.
Chromium extensions
The Chrome extension catalogue installs directly, along with the browser's own add-on store.

Before you start
The browser reinstates its own update task on launch, remove it again if you want the version pinned.
Vertical tabs are off by default, the toggle is at the top left of the tab strip.
Hardware acceleration can cause artefacts on very old GPU drivers, turn it off in settings if that happens.

Can I stop it updating?

Does it import from another browser?
Yes, bookmarks, history, passwords and payment entries import on first launch.
About this listing
This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.
If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.
Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
