Overview
Lightroom Classic is the desktop catalogue application, not the cloud client, and that difference is the whole point. Files stay where you put them, the catalogue holds the edits, and a shoot of forty thousand frames stays searchable without uploading anything anywhere.
The develop module covers the full raw pipeline: exposure and tone curves, HSL, colour grading wheels, detail and noise reduction, lens and perspective correction, and a masking system that can select subject, sky, background, objects and people by body part, then intersect and subtract those masks against each other. Denoise produces a linear DNG so the result stays raw.
Around the develop work sits the library that photographers actually live in. Collections and smart collections, keyword hierarchies, colour labels and flags, face recognition, tethered capture straight into a folder, and output modules for print layout, web galleries and slideshows. Edits are non-destructive, so a virtual copy costs nothing and the original file is never rewritten.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive.
- Back up any existing catalogue before installing over an older release.
- Run setup and select the interface language.
- Open the catalogue and let it upgrade when prompted.
- Set the preview cache location to a fast drive.
Before you start
Keep the catalogue on an internal SSD even when the images live on external storage.
Smart previews let you edit while the originals are offline, at the cost of disk space.
A catalogue upgraded by this release will not open in an older Lightroom.
