Overview
Altium is the environment a lot of professional board design runs through, and the reason is that schematic, layout, library management, simulation and manufacturing output all live in the same application against one project database. Nothing is exported between stages, so a change on the schematic propagates to the layout as an engineering change order rather than as a job for whoever remembers.
The layout side is where the work happens. Interactive routing with push and shove, differential pairs, length tuning with accordion and trombone patterns, impedance controlled stacks, a full constraint system covering clearance, width, via style and matched lengths, and a design rule check that runs continuously rather than at the end. Multi board projects link separate boards through their connectors so the system as a whole can be checked.
The 3D view is not decoration. Component bodies render as real geometry, mechanical enclosures import from the common formats, and clearance checking runs against them, so a connector that fouls a case is caught before the board is ordered rather than after. Manufacturing output covers the standard fabrication and assembly formats, with a draftsman documentation environment for producing the drawing set that goes with them.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive with 40 GB free.
- Run setup and select the modules you need, the full set is large.

- Disable the update service so the installed build stays fixed.
Before you start
Projects saved by this release will not open in an older install, keep a copy if that matters.
The 3D view depends heavily on the graphics driver, update it before diagnosing display problems.
Library data lives outside the project folder, include it when archiving a design.
