Overview

Multisim puts a SPICE engine behind an ordinary schematic sheet, so a circuit can be drawn the way it would be drawn on paper and then simulated without exporting anything or writing a netlist by hand. The instruments are the part people remember: an oscilloscope, function generator, spectrum analyser, bode plotter and multimeter drop onto the canvas as objects and wire into the circuit like real bench equipment.

The component library is the other half of the value. It carries real manufacturer parts with their actual models rather than idealised blocks, covering operational amplifiers, transistors, regulators, logic families, passives with tolerance data and a large set of mixed signal devices. A design simulated against real part models behaves much closer to the board that eventually gets built.

The Professional configuration adds the analyses that matter past a first year course: transient, AC sweep, DC sweep, noise, distortion, Monte Carlo and worst case tolerance analysis, temperature sweeps, sensitivity and pole zero. It also carries the microcontroller co-simulation module and the export path into PCB layout, so a verified schematic can move forward rather than being redrawn somewhere else.

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local drive, not a network share.
  2. Run setup and select the Professional configuration when prompted.
  3. Allow the component database to install, which takes longer than the application itself.
  4. Launch once and let the database index build before opening a large sheet.
  5. Turn off the update service so the installed build stays put.

Before you start

The component database lives outside the program folder, do not move it after install.

Simulations that fail to converge usually need a smaller time step rather than a different circuit.

Sheets saved by this release open in the same version elsewhere, but not in older installs.
