Overview

Mocha solves the problem that point tracking never could. Instead of following a bright dot and losing it the moment it passes behind something, it tracks a plane: a wall, a phone screen, a face, a road sign, any surface that stays roughly flat. It follows the surface through motion blur, partial occlusion and lighting changes, and it produces a corner pin, a transform or a mask that goes straight into the shot.

Rotoscoping is where most of the hours go on a real job, and the tracker feeds it directly. A shape drawn on one frame is carried by the planar track underneath it, so a limb or a jaw line follows the motion instead of being keyframed every few frames. Edge feathering is per point, and the matte can be output with motion blur to match the plate.

Object removal builds on the same tracking data. Clean plates are generated from surrounding frames, so a rig, a marker, a logo or a passer-by is painted out across a whole shot from a handful of references. The stabilisation module runs off the tracker too, and the reorient tool flattens a tracked surface for painting before warping the result back into place.

It ships as both a standalone application and as host plug-ins, which matters in practice. On a small job the plug-in inside the compositor is the fast path. On a big one the standalone keeps a project of dozens of tracked layers separate from the comp and exports data in the formats the rest of the pipeline expects.

What it does well

Planar tracking

Tracks a surface rather than a point, surviving motion blur, partial occlusion and lighting change, and outputs transform, corner pin or mask data.

Roto driven by the track

Shapes ride the planar track underneath them, with per-point feathering and matte motion blur that matches the plate.

Object removal

Clean plate generation from surrounding frames to paint out rigs, markers, signage and unwanted people across a full shot.

Stabilisation and reorient

Smooth or lock a shot from the same tracking data, and flatten a tracked surface for painting before warping it back.

Standalone and plug-in

Runs on its own for large tracking projects or inside the editing and compositing hosts on the machine, with data export in the common formats.

Changes in this build

  • Tracker rewritten for a large speed gain on high resolution plates.
  • New spline tool with smoother interpolation between keyframed shapes.
  • Object removal handles parallax on moving camera shots more reliably.
  • Host plug-in support extended to the current cycle of the major applications.
  • Project files now store the source clip reference relatively so a job moves between machines.

What is in the package

  • Mocha Pro standalone application, 64-bit
  • Host plug-ins for the supported editors and compositors
  • Tracking data export modules for the common formats
  • Sample projects covering removal and roto workflows
  • Reference notes on planar tracking technique

System requirements

Processor64-bit multicore, 8 cores recommended
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB for 4K plates
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB VRAM
Storage3 GB free plus cache space for plates
Display1920 x 1080 minimum
SystemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit

Installation

  1. Install and launch the host applications once before running setup.
  2. Close every host including background render engines.
  3. Run the installer and choose the standalone, the plug-ins, or both.
  4. Apply the included licence step before launching anything.
  5. Open the sample project to confirm the tracker and the plug-in both load.

Before you start

Track the largest flat surface available, not the object you care about. The data transfers to the shape afterwards.

Cache plates to a fast drive, the tracker reads frames constantly.

The standalone and the plug-ins share a preference file, so settings carry between them.

Questions about this title

Is the standalone included?

Yes, both the standalone application and the host plug-ins are in this package.

Which hosts does it support?

The installer detects the supported editors and compositors on the machine and lists them.

Can it export tracking data?

Yes, in the formats the common compositing and 3D applications read.

Does removal need a clean plate?

No, it generates one from surrounding frames using the tracking data.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
