Overview

Magic Bullet is the answer for editors who need footage to look finished but do not want to move a project into a grading application to get there. It is a set of effects that install into the timeline editors and compositors on the machine, and between them they cover the whole finishing pass: primary correction, creative looks, skin treatment, grain, denoise and lens character.

The looks tool is the centre of it. Instead of a stack of unrelated filters it presents a virtual optical chain, with subject, matte, lens, camera and post stages that can each hold tools, and the order can be changed. A diffusion filter placed before the camera stage behaves differently from the same filter after it, exactly as it would on a real rig, and the preview updates live against the actual frame.

Around the looks tool sit the practical fixers. A skin smoothing pass that holds detail in the eyes and lips, a denoiser that works on motion rather than frame by frame, a grain library sampled from real stocks with independent size and colour controls, and a chromatic aberration and vignette pair for putting lens character back into clean digital footage.

The collection is host agnostic. The same look applied in an editing timeline can be opened in a compositor with its parameters intact, and presets are stored in a shared library so a house style is available on any machine with the suite installed.

What it does well

Optical chain looks

Build a grade as a stack of stages, subject, matte, lens, camera and post, with tools placed in whichever order the look needs and a live preview on the real frame.

Film emulation presets

A starting library of stock and print emulations, cinema looks and period treatments, all editable rather than baked.

Skin and beauty work

Smoothing that keeps eye and lip detail, with a skin qualifier that holds through motion so the pass does not crawl.

Grain and denoise

Motion aware denoising and a grain library sampled from real stocks, with independent size, colour and intensity control.

Lens character

Chromatic aberration, vignette, halation and diffusion for restoring optical behaviour to clean digital footage.

Changes in this build

  • Look preview now renders at full resolution on the GPU rather than a reduced proxy.
  • New stock emulation set covering current print and scan characteristics.
  • Skin qualifier retrained, with fewer edge artefacts on darker skin tones.
  • Denoise rewritten for a large speed gain on 4K material.
  • Preset library moved to a shared folder so looks transfer between hosts and machines.

What is in the package

  • Magic Bullet Suite installer for all supported hosts, 64-bit
  • Looks tool with the full optical chain library
  • Skin, denoise, grain and lens effect set
  • Preset library with stock and cinema emulations
  • Sample project demonstrating the chain order

System requirements

Processor64-bit multicore, 6 cores or more recommended
Memory16 GB minimum, 32 GB for 4K timelines
GraphicsGPU with 4 GB VRAM, 8 GB for full resolution previews
Storage4 GB free
Display1920 x 1080, colour accurate panel strongly recommended
SystemWindows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit, with a supported host installed

Installation

  1. Install and launch each host application once so its plug-in folders exist.
  2. Close every host including background render engines.
  3. Run the installer and select the hosts to register against.
  4. Apply the included licence step before opening a host.
  5. Open a host, apply the looks tool, and let the preset thumbnails build.

Before you start

Colour management in the host matters. Set the project to the intended working space before building a look.

Presets live in a shared folder, back it up rather than the individual project files.

Registering against a host added later means running the installer again.

Questions about this title

Does it need a grading application?

No, it installs into the timeline editors and compositors already on the machine.

Do looks transfer between hosts?

Yes, presets are stored in a shared library and open with parameters intact.

Is denoise part of it?

Yes, along with grain, skin work and lens character effects.

Can it render on a node without a display?

Yes, register the installer against the render engine on that machine.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
