Overview

Animate is the direct continuation of the drawing based animation tool that built most of the web animation and a large amount of television cartoon work, and it is still the fastest path from a pencil test to a finished sequence. Timeline, keys, tweens, symbols and a drawing engine built for animators rather than illustrators.

Two ways of working sit side by side. Frame by frame drawing with onion skinning, a brush engine with pressure and tilt, and a vector paint bucket that closes gaps automatically. Or rigged animation using the bone tool, layer parenting and asset warping, where a character is built once and posed on the timeline rather than redrawn.

Output is the part that keeps it in pipelines. A single project publishes to video, image sequences, sprite sheets with a texture atlas for game engines, HTML canvas with the animation driven by generated script, and the legacy formats that broadcast delivery still asks for. Audio can be laid on the timeline with automatic lip sync mapping against a phoneme set.

What it does well

Drawing engine

Pressure and tilt aware brushes, variable width strokes, automatic gap closing on fills and onion skinning across a configurable frame range.

Rigging and warping

The bone tool, layer parenting and asset warp let a drawing be posed rather than redrawn, with a mesh that deforms without tearing.

Timeline and tweens

Classic and motion tweens with editable easing curves, symbol nesting, frame labels and a camera layer for pans and pushes.

Lip sync

Map recorded dialogue to a mouth set automatically, then fix individual frames by hand where it matters.

Publish targets

Video, image sequence, sprite sheet with atlas, canvas output with generated script, and the legacy delivery formats.

Changes in this build

  • Brush engine reworked with smoother strokes at high pressure sensitivity.
  • Asset warp mesh handling improved on complex outlines.
  • Timeline redraw made faster on scenes with many nested symbols.
  • Sprite sheet export gained tighter packing and per-sheet naming control.
  • Fixed audio drift on long timelines with mixed sample rates.

What is in the package

  • Animate 2024 offline installer, 64-bit
  • Brush, pattern and character rig starter library
  • Publish presets for video, sprite sheet and canvas output
  • Sample projects with editable rigs
  • Multilingual interface packs, 14 languages

System requirements

ProcessorIntel or AMD 64-bit, quad core recommended
Memory8 GB minimum, 16 GB for long scenes
GraphicsGPU with 2 GB VRAM and a current driver
Storage8 GB free plus publish cache space
Display1920 x 1080 minimum, pen display supported
InputPressure sensitive tablet strongly recommended

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local drive.
  2. Install and test your tablet driver before running setup.
  3. Run the installer and choose the interface language.
  4. Launch once and set the drawing surface and brush smoothing preferences.
  5. Open a sample project to confirm publishing works before starting real work.

Before you start

Brush lag is almost always the tablet driver rather than the application, update it first.

Publishing to canvas output generates a script file alongside the assets, keep them together.

Turn off automatic updates so the installed build stays fixed.

Questions about this title

Can it export sprite sheets?

Yes, with a packed texture atlas and per-sheet naming for game engine import.

Does it do lip sync?

Yes, dialogue maps to a mouth set automatically and individual frames stay editable.

Is a tablet required?

Not strictly, but frame by frame drawing with a mouse is painful.

Can it publish video directly?

Yes, video and image sequence output are both built in.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
