Overview

CCleaner has been the default answer to a slow, cluttered Windows install for long enough that most people reach for it without thinking. It sweeps temporary files, browser caches and histories, log files, thumbnail caches, crash dumps and the residue that uninstallers leave behind, and it reports what it found before touching anything.

Beyond the cleaner there is a set of maintenance tools that get used more than the headline feature. The startup manager shows every autostart entry including scheduled tasks and browser add-ins, the uninstaller lists applications the control panel misses, the duplicate finder works across drives, the drive wiper covers free space as well as whole volumes, and the registry section removes broken references with a backup written first.

This package carries the Professional, Technician and Business configurations. The differences are scheduling, automatic browser cleaning, real time monitoring and the portable technician build meant to be run from a stick on a machine that is not yours. All three are in the same archive with the configuration selected at install.

What it does well

Cleanup engine

Temporary files, browser caches and histories, logs, thumbnails, crash dumps and application residue, with an analysis pass before deletion.

Startup manager

Every autostart path in one list including services, scheduled tasks and browser extensions, with disable rather than delete as the default.

Registry cleaner

Removes broken references with a mandatory backup file written before any change is applied.

Drive wiper

Overwrite free space or an entire volume so deleted content cannot be recovered, with selectable pass counts.

Three configurations

Professional, Technician and Business builds in one archive, including the portable technician tool for service work.

Changes in this build

  • Cleaning definitions updated for the current browser releases.
  • Startup manager now shows the publisher and file path for every entry.
  • Health check pass rewritten with clearer reporting and fewer prompts.
  • Reduced background service footprint when monitoring is disabled.
  • Fixed a hang when scanning very large browser profile folders.

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local folder.
  2. Run the installer and pick the configuration you want.
  3. Decline the monitoring component unless you actually want it running constantly.
  4. Run an analysis pass first and read the list before cleaning anything.
  5. Turn off automatic updates so the build stays as installed.

Before you start

Close browsers before cleaning or the session data will be rewritten immediately afterwards.

Registry cleaning is the least useful feature and the most likely to cause a problem, keep the backup file.

The monitoring component runs constantly by design, disable it if you only want manual cleaning.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
