Overview
DiskGenius covers most of what usually takes three separate utilities. Partitions can be created, resized, moved, split, merged and converted between partition table types without destroying what is on them. Cloning copies a whole disk or a single partition, including a system volume, and adjusts the boot configuration so the copy actually starts rather than sitting there as an inert duplicate.
The recovery half is the reason it stays on a technician's stick. Deleted files can be pulled back from an intact file system, a formatted or corrupted volume can be scanned sector by sector to rebuild a directory tree, and lost partitions can be found and restored when a partition table has been wiped. Recovered data is previewed before anything is written, and the target is always a different disk so nothing overwrites the evidence.
Around those two are the maintenance tools: bad sector scanning with an attempted repair pass, drive health reporting, secure erase, sector level hex editing, virtual disk file handling, permanent wiping to a chosen pattern, and byte level backup images with incremental updates. Installation
- Extract the archive to a drive other than the one you intend to recover from.
- Run the installer with administrator rights.
- Apply the included configuration step before first launch.
- Build the bootable rescue stick straight away, before you need it.
- Run a health report on your disks so you have a baseline to compare against.
Before you start
Never recover onto the same disk you are recovering from, it overwrites the data you are trying to save.
Stop using a failing disk immediately, every write reduces what can be recovered.
Partition operations on a system volume should be done from the bootable environment where possible.
