Overview

DLC Boot is a rescue environment on a stick. It boots a machine that no longer boots itself, and once it is up you get a working desktop with the tools a technician actually reaches for: partition editors, disk imaging, file recovery, password reset, registry access on the offline system, driver backup, hardware diagnostics and network access for pulling files off before a wipe.

The value is not any single tool, all of them exist separately. The value is that they are on one piece of media that boots on both UEFI and legacy firmware, so a bench does not need six USB drives and a guess about which one the machine in front of it will accept. The included creator writes the environment to a USB drive and can leave the rest of the drive usable as ordinary storage.

Common jobs it handles without ceremony: resizing a partition that was set up badly, cloning a failing drive onto a new one sector by sector, pulling documents off a system that will not start, clearing a forgotten local account password, reading SMART data before deciding whether a disk is worth keeping, and reinstalling a boot loader that an operating system install trampled.

What it does well

Boots almost anything

UEFI and legacy BIOS support with secure boot handling, so the same drive works across a mixed fleet of machines.

Partition and imaging tools

Resize, move, merge, convert and clone partitions, plus full disk imaging with restore to dissimilar hardware.

Data recovery

File recovery from deleted, formatted and damaged volumes, with raw signature scanning when the file table is gone.

Password and account tools

Reset or clear local account passwords and unlock accounts on an offline installation.

Diagnostics

SMART reporting, surface scanning, memory testing, CPU and GPU stress tools and full hardware inventory.

Changes in this build

  • Boot loader updated for better compatibility with recent firmware revisions.
  • Storage and network drivers refreshed so more current machines come up with working disks and networking.
  • Partition tool set updated to a newer engine with better handling of very large volumes.
  • USB creator reworked so the remaining space on the drive stays usable for normal files.
  • Removed several duplicated utilities to cut the image size without losing capability.

What is in the package

  • Bootable ISO for UEFI and legacy firmware
  • USB creator utility
  • Partitioning, cloning and imaging tool set
  • Data recovery and password reset utilities
  • Hardware diagnostic and benchmarking tools

System requirements

ProcessorAny x64 processor
Memory2 GB minimum, 4 GB for the full desktop environment
GraphicsAny adapter with basic display output
Storage8 GB USB drive or larger for the writable media
Display1024 x 768 minimum
FirmwareUEFI or legacy BIOS, secure boot handled

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a folder on a working machine.
  2. Insert a USB drive of 8 GB or larger and back up anything already on it.
  3. Run the creator and pick the drive, then let it write and verify.
  4. Set the target machine to boot from USB in its firmware settings.
  5. Boot the drive and pick the environment that matches the firmware type.

Before you start

Some firmware refuses to boot the media until secure boot is turned off, that is a firmware setting and not a fault in the image.

Cloning tools will happily overwrite the wrong disk, confirm the target by size and serial before starting.

Recovery scans should always write recovered files to a different drive than the one being read.

Questions about this title

Does it boot on UEFI machines?

Yes, both UEFI and legacy paths are on the same media.

Can the USB drive still hold normal files?

Yes, the creator leaves the remaining space available as ordinary storage.

Will it recover from a formatted disk?

Often, if nothing has been written since. Signature scanning finds files even when the table is gone.

Is networking available in the environment?

Yes, drivers for common wired adapters are included so files can be copied off over the network.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Bootable ISO and USB creator before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
