Overview

Driver Talent scans the hardware in a machine, identifies what is running an outdated, generic or missing driver, and installs the correct one. That is a mundane job right up until a fresh operating system install comes up with no network adapter, at which point every online solution is unavailable and the machine is stuck.

The answer to that case is the offline scan, which is the reason a lot of technicians keep this on a stick. Run the scan on the broken machine, save the hardware profile to a file, take it to a working machine, download the matching driver package, and bring it back. Network drivers in particular are pre-bundled in the network configuration so the common case is solved in one step.

The Pro configuration adds driver backup and restore, which is the part worth having before any of the updating happens. Take a full backup of every installed driver to a folder or an archive, and a bad update becomes a two minute rollback rather than an afternoon. There is also a restore point taken automatically before each install, a hardware information panel with temperature and detail reporting, and a peripheral repair pass for devices that show up with an error in device manager.

What it does well

Offline driver installation

Save a hardware profile from a machine with no network, fetch the matching drivers elsewhere, and install them from the file.

Backup and restore

Archive every installed driver before touching anything, so a bad update is reversible without a system restore.

Pre-bundled network drivers

The network configuration carries adapter drivers in the package itself, which solves the most common post-install dead end.

Automatic restore points

A restore point is taken before each driver installation, on top of the driver level backup.

Hardware information

A detail panel covering component identification, driver versions, temperatures and device status reporting.

Changes in this build

  • Driver database refreshed with current graphics, chipset and network releases.
  • Offline profile format updated with more complete device identification.
  • Install queue reworked so a failed driver no longer stops the rest of the batch.
  • Backup archives now compress considerably smaller.
  • Fixed a detection failure on some recent integrated audio devices.

What is in the package

  • Driver Talent Pro installer, 32-bit and 64-bit
  • Network configuration with pre-bundled adapter drivers
  • Offline hardware profile tooling
  • Driver backup and restore module
  • Multilingual interface files, 19 languages

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local folder or a stick for offline use.

  3. Apply the included configuration step before first launch.
  4. Take a full driver backup before installing a single update.
  5. Run the scan and review the list before applying anything.

Before you start

A driver from the hardware vendor is always the safest source, this is for the cases where that is impractical.

Take the backup first. It is the entire reason the Pro configuration is worth having.

Graphics drivers are the ones most likely to need a clean removal rather than an in place update.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
