Overview

Partition work is one of the few remaining jobs where the built in Windows tools stop just short of useful. They will shrink a volume but not past an immovable file, they will not move a partition, and they will not migrate a system to a new disk. This tool does all three, queues the operations, and reboots into its own environment for the ones that cannot run on a mounted volume.

The core set covers resizing, moving, splitting, merging, creating, formatting, converting between partition table styles and file systems without data loss, changing cluster size, checking and repairing file systems, and rebuilding a boot record. Operations are staged as a pending list and applied together, so a plan can be reviewed before anything is written.

Cloning and migration is the other half. Copy a whole disk or a single partition, migrate a running system onto a smaller solid state drive with the partitions scaled to fit, and align the result properly on the new hardware. The bootable environment ships in the archive and handles the machines that will not start, and the technician configuration is licensed for work on other people's systems.

What it does well

Resize and move

Shrink, grow, move, split and merge volumes including past the immovable files that stop the built in tools.

System migration

Move a running installation to a new disk with partitions scaled to fit and the boot configuration rebuilt.

Cloning

Sector by sector or used space only cloning for whole disks and individual partitions, with proper alignment on the target.

Conversion without data loss

Switch between partition table styles and convert file systems in place rather than reformatting.

Bootable environment

A USB environment for machines that will not start, or for operations that cannot run on a mounted system volume.

Changes in this build

  • Migration wizard reworked with clearer target partition sizing.
  • Cloning made faster on solid state targets.
  • Bootable environment rebuilt with a newer storage driver set.
  • Boot repair extended to more failure cases on UEFI systems.
  • Pending operation list now estimates duration per step.

What is in the package

  • Partition Master installer, 32 and 64-bit
  • Professional, Server and Technician configurations
  • Bootable environment builder for USB media
  • Cloning and migration wizards
  • Multilingual interface files, 16 languages

Installation

  1. Back up anything irreplaceable before starting, partition work carries real risk.
  2. Extract the archive and run setup, choosing the configuration you need.
  3. Build the bootable USB environment before attempting anything on a system volume.
  4. Stage the operations you want and review the pending list before applying.
  5. Apply, and let the machine reboot into the offline environment if it asks to.

Before you start

Never interrupt an operation in progress, a partially moved partition is far harder to recover than a lost one.

A migration to a smaller disk needs the used space to fit, not the partition size.

Some laptop recovery partitions break if moved, leave them where the manufacturer put them.

Questions about this title

Can it move a system to an SSD?

Yes, the migration wizard scales the partitions and rebuilds the boot configuration.

Does it work if Windows will not boot?

Yes, build the bootable USB environment and work from there.

Can it convert a partition table style?

Yes, without reformatting and without losing data.

Which configuration should I install?

Professional for a personal machine, Technician for work on other people's systems.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
