Overview
Nuke is what feature film compositing runs on, and the reason is the node graph. Every operation is a node with visible inputs and outputs, so a shot with four hundred operations remains readable, reviewable and fixable by someone who did not build it. Layer based compositors hide their structure inside stacks. Nuke puts the whole thing on the table.
The image pipeline is 32-bit float throughout with proper colour management, deep image support that carries per-pixel depth samples so elements composite correctly through smoke and hair, and a 3D system with cameras, geometry, projections and a scanline or ray traced renderer for set extension and projection work. Everything is scriptable, and studio pipelines lean on that heavily.
The Studio package is the full set. NukeX adds the tooling that matters on real plates: the camera tracker, planar tracker, lens distortion solver, depth generation, denoise and the particle system. Studio then adds a conform capable timeline with editorial import, so a sequence can be cut, versioned, reviewed and rendered from inside the same application rather than round tripping through an editor. Frame server distribution spreads renders across machines on the network.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive with plenty of room.
- Run the installer and choose the install location carefully, pipelines expect a versioned path.
- Apply the included configuration step before first launch.
- Set the cache and temporary directories to fast local storage.
- Open a sample script and render a frame to confirm the GPU nodes initialise.
Before you start
Cache directories on the system drive will fill it quickly, point them elsewhere before real work.
Gizmos and plug-ins from an older cycle usually need reinstalling against this version.
The frame server needs the same install path on every machine that participates in a render.
