Overview

Glary Utilities is the kind of package that used to come on a magazine cover disc: two dozen small maintenance tools gathered behind one window, with a single button that runs the sensible subset of them in sequence. That one click maintenance pass is what most people use, and it covers temporary file removal, browser trace clearing, registry cleaning, shortcut repair and startup review.

The individual tools are worth more than the combined scan for anyone who knows what they are looking for. The disk space analyser shows where the capacity actually went as a size sorted tree. The startup manager lists every autostart entry across the registry, the startup folders and the scheduled tasks, with a delay option instead of only enable and disable. The uninstall manager removes leftovers that a normal uninstall left behind, and the duplicate finder works by content rather than by name.

The Pro configuration adds automatic maintenance on a schedule, the driver updater, real time optimisation of memory and startup, and priority access to the definition updates that feed the cleaning rules. It is worth being conservative with any registry cleaner, and the application does keep a restore point of every change it makes, which is the only reason to be relaxed about running one at all.

What it does well

One click maintenance

A single scan that runs the safe subset of the toolset in sequence and reports what it found before anything is changed.

Disk space analyser

A size sorted tree of where the capacity went, which finds the forgotten cache folder that ate two hundred gigabytes.

Startup and scheduled task manager

Every autostart entry across the registry, startup folders and task scheduler, with a delay option as well as disable.

Uninstall manager

Remove applications along with the leftover folders, registry entries and services a normal uninstall leaves behind.

Undo for everything

Changes are recorded and reversible, which is the only responsible way to run a registry cleaner.

Changes in this build

  • Cleaning rules updated for the current browser and application versions.
  • Disk analyser rewritten with a much faster first scan on large volumes.
  • Driver updater database refreshed.
  • Scheduled maintenance now runs at low priority so it does not interrupt work.
  • Fixed a false positive in the registry scan on machines with virtual drive software.

Installation

  1. Extract the archive and run the installer.
  2. Decline any bundled offers presented during setup.
  3. Apply the included configuration step before first launch.
  4. Run a scan without repairing first, and read what it proposes to change.
  5. Set the scheduled maintenance interval, or turn it off if you prefer manual runs.

Before you start

Review a registry scan before applying it rather than clicking straight through, cleaners occasionally flag something in use.

The driver updater is convenient but a driver from the hardware vendor is always the safer source.

Every change is reversible from the undo panel, which is worth knowing before the first run.

Questions about this title

Is it safe to run the registry cleaner?

It keeps an undo record of every change, and reviewing before applying is still the sensible habit.

What does Pro add?

Scheduled automatic maintenance, the driver updater, real time optimisation and priority definition updates.

Does it find duplicate files?

Yes, by content rather than by file name.

Will it remove leftovers from old uninstalls?

Yes, the uninstall manager targets exactly that.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
