Drives do not usually fail without warning, they fail after weeks of warnings that nobody was reading. Hard Disk Sentinel reads them. It polls every attached drive continuously, interprets the raw health attributes rather than just listing them, and reports a health and performance percentage with a plain description of what is degrading and roughly how long the drive has left.
Coverage is broader than most tools in this category. Mechanical disks, solid state drives with their own wear and endurance attributes, NVMe devices with their controller specific data, external enclosures over USB, and drives behind common controller cards. Where a controller hides the physical disks, the tool can often still reach through to the underlying devices and report on each one individually.

Installation
- Extract the archive and run the installer to the default location.
- Allow the monitoring service to install and start.
- Apply the included configuration step to enable the Professional features.
- Set the temperature and health thresholds for your drives.
- Configure at least one alert action before leaving the machine unattended.
Before you start
A health percentage that drops is a warning, not a failure. Back up first, then decide.
Some USB enclosures do not pass drive attributes through at all, in which case only basic information is available.
Surface tests are slow and disk intensive. Run them when the machine is not needed.
