Overview
Painter puts the texturing stage on the model itself rather than on a flat UV sheet. Brushes, fills and projections apply across seams in real time, the viewport shows the result under proper lighting as it is painted, and every stroke lands in a layer stack that stays editable to the end of the job.
Smart materials are the reason it replaced hand painting for most production work. A material carries its own generators and masks, so dropping metal onto a mesh produces wear on the edges, dirt in the cavities and grime in the crevices, all driven by the baked curvature, ambient occlusion and thickness maps rather than painted by hand. Adjust the underlying parameters and the whole surface updates.
The baking and export side is what makes it fit a pipeline. High to low poly baking runs inside the application with cage control and per-material output, and the export presets write the exact map sets that the common render engines and game engines expect, at whatever resolution and bit depth the target needs, without a manual channel packing pass.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive.
- Update the GPU driver before installing, the viewport depends on it.
- Run setup and let the material library unpack after the main copy.

Before you start
The shelf can point at a shared network folder for studio libraries, but keep the cache local.
Baking at 4K on a card with less than 8 GB will fall back and take considerably longer.
Turn off the update check so the build stays fixed.
