Overview
AutoCAD Mechanical is the base drafting application with an engineering toolset built on top of it. Everything the standard release does is still here, the same command line, the same layer and block behaviour, the same file format, and on top of that sits a library of standard parts and a set of tools that automate the repetitive half of production drafting.
The standard parts library is the headline. Screws, nuts, washers, bolts, pins, bearings, shafts, seals and structural sections are generated to the recognised international standards, sized from a dialog, and dropped into the drawing already dimensioned. Change a fastener size and the associated holes, callouts and the bill of material all follow, which removes an entire class of drawing errors.
The calculation and analysis tools cover the everyday engineering checks: shaft deflection and stress, bearing life, spring rates, cam design and a moment of inertia calculator that reads the geometry off the drawing. None of it replaces a dedicated analysis package, but for sizing decisions made at the drawing board it saves a separate round trip.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive with 40 GB free.
- Uninstall any partially installed release from the same product family.
- Run setup and select the language and the content libraries.
- Let the parts library unpack, which takes longer than the main install.
- Launch once and pick the drafting standard your drawings follow.
Before you start
Block automatic updates and the desktop component installer, both replace files after setup.
Drawings saved here open in the plain drafting release, but the mechanical objects appear as ordinary geometry.
Set the drafting standard before the first drawing, changing it later reformats existing dimensions.
