Overview

Fusion 360 covers the whole path from an idea to a manufactured part inside one application. The modelling side is parametric with a full history, so a dimension changed at the start propagates through every downstream feature, and it also offers direct editing, freeform surface modelling, sheet metal and mesh work when the history model is the wrong tool for the job.

Assemblies are built from components with joints rather than mate constraints, which makes motion easy to describe and easy to check. Interference detection, contact sets and motion studies show whether a mechanism actually works before anything is cut, and the drawing environment produces dimensioned production sheets with bills of material off the same assembly.

The manufacturing side is what makes it unusual at this level. Two through five axis milling, turning, mill turn, cutting and additive workflows generate toolpaths against the model, simulate the cut with stock removal and collision checking, and post process to the machine's own code through an editable post library. Simulation covers static stress, modal, thermal, buckling and shape optimisation on the same geometry.

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local drive.
  2. Remove any earlier install of the same application first.
  3. Run setup and let the component modules install.
  4. Apply the included configuration step before the first launch.
  5. Set the local project folder before creating the first design.

Before you start

Set a local project folder, otherwise designs go somewhere you will have to find later.

Post processors are editable text, keep a copy of any edited one outside the install folder.

Block the updater, an update replaces the component set and the configuration with it.
