Overview
Inventor is the parametric mechanical package for product and machine design, built around a sketch and feature history that stays editable to the end of a project. A dimension change propagates through the part, the assemblies that use it, and the drawings that document it, which is the whole reason parametric modelling exists.
Assembly work is where it earns its place. Constraints and joints define how parts fit and move, contact sets and drive controls simulate mechanisms in place, interference checking finds the clashes before anything is cut, and the bill of materials is generated from the assembly rather than typed. Large assembly handling uses level of detail and simplified representations so a machine with thousands of parts still opens.
The Professional configuration adds the analysis and specialist environments: stress and modal simulation with mesh control, dynamic simulation of moving mechanisms, tube and pipe routing with standard fittings, cable and harness design, and mould design tooling. Sheet metal, weldments and frame generation are in the base package, along with the drawing environment that produces the documentation.
What it does well
Parametric history
Sketch driven features with a fully editable history, so a dimension change flows through parts, assemblies and drawings together.
Assembly and mechanism
Constraints, joints, contact sets, drive simulation and interference checking, with level of detail handling for very large assemblies.
Specialist environments
Sheet metal with flat pattern output, weldments, frame generator, tube and pipe routing, and cable and harness design.
Simulation
Stress, modal and dynamic simulation with mesh control and result plots, included in the Professional configuration.
Drawing output
Associative views, section and detail views, GD and T annotation, hole tables and automatic parts lists from the assembly.
Changes in this build
- Large assembly open times reduced with reworked component loading.
- Sheet metal unfold rules extended for more material and bend conditions.
- Drawing view generation made faster on assemblies with many components.
- Simulation meshing improved on thin walled geometry.
- Improved translation of STEP assemblies with layer and colour retained.
What is in the package
- Inventor Professional 2027 offline installer, 64-bit
- Content centre standard parts library
- Simulation and dynamic analysis environments
- Tube, pipe, cable and harness modules
- Multilingual interface packs, 12 languages
System requirements
| Processor | Intel or AMD 64-bit, 3 GHz or faster, multicore recommended |
| Memory | 16 GB minimum, 32 GB or more for large assemblies |
| Graphics | Certified GPU with 4 GB VRAM recommended |
| Storage | 40 GB free including the content centre |
| Display | 1920 x 1080 minimum |
| System | Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit only |
Installation
- Extract the archive to a local drive with plenty of free space.
- Remove any partially installed Autodesk components first.
- Run setup and choose which content centre libraries to install, they are large.
- Set the project folder and workspace paths at first launch.
- Open a sample assembly once so the graphics cache builds.
Before you start
Install only the content centre libraries you use, the full set is far larger than the application.
Autodesk shared components are used by other applications, do not remove them while one is installed.
Turn off the update service so the build stays fixed for a running project.
Questions about this title
Is simulation included?
Yes, stress, modal and dynamic simulation are part of the Professional configuration.
Does it read STEP and other formats?
Yes, the translators handle STEP, IGES, SAT and the common native formats.
Can it run beside another Autodesk application?
Yes, they share components and install into versioned folders.
Do older project files open?
Yes, files from earlier cycles open and are saved forward.
About this listing
This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.
If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.
Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
