Overview

ETABS is built specifically for buildings rather than structures in general, and the whole environment reflects that. Models are organised by storey, floor systems are objects rather than collections of members, and results come back in the terms a building engineer works in: storey drift, storey shear, overturning, diaphragm forces and irregularity checks.

That focus makes the modelling fast. Similar storeys are defined once and replicated, grids drive the layout, and templates generate a full frame in a few dialogs. Loads follow the same logic: automatic seismic and wind generation to the major regional codes, pattern live loading, and load combinations built automatically from the selected code rather than typed in by hand.

The Ultimate configuration includes the full analysis and design range. Linear and non-linear static and dynamic analysis, pushover, direct integration time history, staged construction, cracked section behaviour, and design for steel frames, concrete frames, shear walls, composite beams, columns and slabs, all against the international code set. Detailed drawings and schedules can be generated from the designed model.

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a local drive.
  2. Remove any earlier release of the same application.

Before you start

Non-linear analysis writes very large scratch files, keep the working folder on a fast disk with room.

Set the design code before modelling, changing it later regenerates every combination.

Models from a much older release should be opened and saved forward once.
