D5 Render exists because architectural visualisation used to mean setting up a render, going for lunch and finding out afterwards that the light was wrong. Here the viewport is ray traced in real time, so materials, sun angle, weather and camera framing are judged as they are changed, and the final image is a higher sample count of the same thing rather than a different renderer entirely.
The live sync links are what make it practical on a working project. Plug-ins for the main modelling and BIM packages push geometry across and keep it updated, so a wall moved in the model appears in the scene without a reimport and without losing the materials, lights and cameras already placed. Instanced vegetation, furniture and people come from a bundled asset library that covers most interior and exterior scenes without hunting for models.
Output covers the full deliverable set an architecture practice actually hands over: still images at print resolution, animated walkthroughs along a camera path, panoramas for headset review, and a video mode with depth of field, motion blur and physically based exposure. Installation
- Extract the archive to a drive with room for the asset library as well as the application.
- Install the main application first and let it finish completely.
- Install the live sync plug-ins for the modelling packages you use.
- Apply the included configuration step before the first launch.
- Open a sample scene once so shaders compile before real work.
Before you start
A GPU without ray tracing hardware will run the viewport but far too slowly to work in.
Keep the asset library off the system drive, it grows considerably with use.
Live sync plug-ins have to match the modelling package version, reinstall them after a host upgrade.
