Overview

Marvelous Designer builds clothing the way clothing is actually made. Flat pattern pieces are drawn in a 2D window, sewn together along their edges, and the cloth simulation drapes the result over a figure with weight, stiffness, stretch and friction taken from the assigned fabric. The garment falls the way the real one would rather than being sculpted to look as if it does.

That approach is why it sits in so many production pipelines that have nothing to do with fashion. Character artists for film and games use it because a simulated garment gives folds and creases that would take days to sculpt by hand, and the result exports as clean geometry with UV coordinates already laid out from the flat patterns, which is a rare thing in 3D clothing work.

Installation

Before you start

Simulate at a coarse particle distance while blocking out, then refine, running fine from the start wastes hours.

Animation caches get very large, keep them off the system drive.

Export the remeshed version for production, the simulation mesh is not suitable topology.
