Overview
Rhinoceros is the modeller people reach for when the shape refuses to behave in a parametric history tree. It builds on NURBS mathematics, so curves and surfaces stay exact rather than approximated, and it will happily model a boat hull, a ring setting, a facade panel and a shoe last in the same session without complaining that one of them is not mechanical enough.
The other half of the application is Grasshopper, the visual node editor that ships in the box. Definitions built there drive geometry from sliders, data lists and expressions, which is how facade studies, structural lattices and jewellery variants get generated in the hundreds instead of drawn one at a time. Nothing extra needs to be installed for it, and the definitions open on any machine running the same cycle.
SubD is the piece that changed the workflow most. Box modelling and creased subdivision cages live alongside the NURBS tools, and a SubD cage converts to a clean NURBS body when it is time to detail or document. Combined with the file translation layer, which reads and writes DWG, STEP, IGES, OBJ, FBX, 3DM and SVG cleanly, it is the package that sits in the middle of a studio pipeline and keeps everything else talking.

Installation
- Extract the archive to a local folder outside Program Files.
- Close any running instance and any plug-in host application.
- Run setup and choose the interface language at the first prompt.
- Let the material and environment libraries unpack before launching.
- Open the sample model once so the display pipeline caches shaders.
Before you start
Turn off the update check in options, otherwise the application replaces its own components.
Plug-ins compiled for an older cycle need their own reinstall against this build.
The display mode defaults can be exported and shared, which saves setting them up twice.
