Overview

NX is the tier above the mechanical packages most workshops start on. It is one environment covering parametric solid modelling, direct editing on imported geometry, class A surfacing, sheet metal, routed systems for piping and wiring, large assembly management, drafting to standard, structural and thermal simulation, and toolpath generation for multi-axis machining. Teams move to it when a product stops fitting inside a single discipline.

The modelling core is the part that keeps people there. Synchronous technology lets you push and pull faces on a model that arrived as a dumb solid from a supplier, with no feature tree to work from, and the change behaves as though the geometry had always been parametric. For anyone who spends their week fixing imported STEP files that capability alone changes the job.

Assembly handling is built for scale. Components load by reference with configurable levels of detail, so a machine with tens of thousands of parts opens without pulling every body into memory. Interpart expressions link dimensions across components, clearance analysis runs against the loaded set, and arrangement states hold alternative positions of the same mechanism.

Manufacturing closes the loop inside the same file. Turning, milling up to five axis simultaneous, wire EDM and robotic paths are programmed against the design model, verified against a machine kinematic definition, and posted through a configurable processor. Because the toolpath references the model rather than a copy, a design change flags the affected operations instead of quietly producing a wrong part.

What it does well

Synchronous modelling

Edit imported geometry with no feature history by pushing faces directly, with face relationships recognised and maintained through the change.

Class A surfacing

Curvature continuous surface construction with real time analysis: zebra, reflection, curvature comb and draft checking on the live model.

Large assembly performance

Reference loading, level of detail representations, arrangement states and interpart expressions for machines with tens of thousands of components.

Simulation in the same file

Structural, thermal, motion and flow studies run against the design geometry with mesh controls, so a result maps back to the feature that caused it.

Multi-axis machining

Turning, milling to five axis simultaneous, wire EDM and robotic programming with kinematic verification and a configurable post processor.

Changes in this build

  • Faster load times on assemblies above twenty thousand components.
  • Surfacing analysis tools moved onto the GPU for live feedback while dragging control points.
  • Drafting view generation reworked, cutting update time on large drawing sheets.
  • Machining toolpath calculation parallelised across cores.
  • Improved STEP and Parasolid import with fewer healing operations required.

What is in the package

  • NX installer, 64-bit
  • Design, simulation and manufacturing modules
  • Standard parts and fastener libraries
  • Post processor library for common machine controllers
  • Multilingual interface files, 10 languages

System requirements

ProcessorIntel or AMD 64-bit workstation class, 8 cores or more
Memory32 GB minimum, 64 GB or more for large assemblies and simulation
GraphicsCertified workstation GPU with 8 GB VRAM
Storage60 GB free, NVMe strongly recommended
Display1920 x 1080 minimum, dual monitor recommended
SystemWindows 10 22H2 or Windows 11, 64-bit only

Installation

  1. Extract the archive to a drive with 60 GB free.
  2. Install the licensing component from the included folder before the main application.
  3. Run setup and select the modules you need, all of them can be added later.
  4. Set the environment variables listed in the included notes.
  5. Launch once and let the template libraries register before opening a real model.

Before you start

The licensing component has to be installed and started first or the application closes at launch.

Consumer GPUs work but show artefacts in the surfacing analysis views, a workstation card is the safe path.

Files saved here do not open in an earlier release. Export STEP for anyone still on an older install.

Questions about this title

Does it include the machining modules?

Yes, turning, milling, wire EDM and the post processor library are part of this package.

Can it edit imported STEP files?

Yes, synchronous modelling is designed exactly for geometry that arrives without a feature tree.

Is simulation included?

Structural, thermal, motion and flow studies are present in this build.

How much disk does it really need?

Sixty gigabytes free for a comfortable full module install, less if modules are skipped.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 10 / 11 (64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
