Overview
Office 2007 is the release that introduced the ribbon and the XML based file formats that every suite since has used. It is nearly two decades old and it is still downloaded constantly, for two straightforward reasons: it runs comfortably on hardware that chokes on a current suite, and it opens macro heavy workbooks and templates exactly the way they were written.
The Enterprise configuration in this image carries Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote, InfoPath and Groove. Everything writes the current XML formats, so documents produced here open in a modern suite without a converter, and the compatibility pack handles the older binary formats in the other direction.
For machines living in a workshop, a lab or a stock room, the resource cost is the argument. It installs in a few hundred megabytes, launches in a couple of seconds on a mechanical disk, and runs in a gigabyte of memory. There is no background service negotiating a licence and no telemetry component to disable.
It is also the last suite where a large body of VBA tooling runs without adjustment. Forms, ActiveX controls and old automation references that a modern Excel refuses or silently blocks still load here, which is why so many small businesses keep one machine on it purely to run a spreadsheet somebody wrote a long time ago.

Installation
- Remove any newer Office first if you want clean file associations.
- Extract or mount the image on a local drive.
- Run setup and choose the applications you want, the rest can be skipped.
- Let the service pack apply if the installer did not fold it in.
- Open Word once and set the default save format.
Before you start
This release is out of support, so it receives no security fixes. Do not open unknown documents on a machine that matters.
It is 32-bit only, which is fine for its purpose but limits Excel to a smaller memory ceiling.
Installing beside a newer suite works, but the last one installed wins the file associations.
