Overview

Office 2016 Professional Plus is the release that still runs on a great many machines that were never going to move to a subscription, and it remains the last suite in the line that installs comfortably on Windows 7 as well as everything newer. This image is the full Professional Plus configuration rather than the home selection.

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote and the Skype for Business client are all present, along with the shared pieces that internal tooling depends on: the VBA runtime, the equation editor, the charting engine and the data model behind PivotTables. Files round trip with newer suites without any conversion step, because the formats have not changed.

Both architectures are in the same image and chosen at setup. That still matters here more than in later releases, because a large amount of the accounting, laboratory and line of business add-in software written for this era was compiled 32-bit only and will refuse to load into the 64-bit build. Deployment configuration samples are bundled for anyone rolling this out to more than one desk.

What it does well

Full Professional Plus set

Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, Publisher, OneNote and the Skype for Business client, not the trimmed retail selection.

Excel with the classic engine

Power Query built in, the data model, PivotTables and PivotCharts, the full function library and the VBA editor with the object browser intact.

Outlook with local data files

Exchange, IMAP and POP profiles with local storage, rules, search folders and full offline access to anything already synced.

Runs on older hardware

The last suite in this line that installs and behaves on Windows 7 and 8, which keeps a lot of workshop and studio machines usable.

Deployment ready

Configuration XML samples for silent installs and for excluding individual applications from the set.

Changes in this build

  • Servicing rollup integrated so the suite installs current rather than pulling a long update pass.
  • Setup hardened against leftover click to run components from a newer suite.
  • Language packs folded into the image instead of being fetched after install.
  • Deployment samples rewritten with per-application exclusion examples.
  • Torrent payload rebuilt with larger pieces so verification finishes faster.

  3. Choose 32-bit or 64-bit based on the add-ins you have to keep working.
  4. Run setup and let it finish without opening an application halfway through.
  5. Open Word once and check the activation state in the account panel.

Before you start

Architectures cannot be mixed across applications in one suite, pick one and stay with it.

On Windows 7 install the platform update first or the ribbon rendering will be slow.

Turn automatic updates off if the build should stay exactly where it is.

Questions about this title

Does it still work on Windows 7?

Yes, this is the last perpetual suite in the line that installs and runs there without workarounds.

Is Access included?

Yes, Access and Publisher are both part of Professional Plus.

Can it sit beside a newer Office?

Technically possible and consistently fragile. A single suite per machine is the reliable path.

Do the direct link and magnet match?

Yes, both resolve to the same image.

About this listing

This entry was checked on a clean install of Windows 7 / 8 / 10 / 11 (32-bit and 64-bit) before it was published, and it is rechecked whenever the package is rebuilt. The figures on this page come from the site index rather than from the publisher, so the download count is what people here have actually pulled.

If a mirror stops answering, use the contact form and it gets replaced. Reports about a specific title are handled faster than general messages because they name the file, the mirror and the point at which the transfer stopped.

Requests for a different version, a different language build or an older release go on the requests page. Older versions of a title are usually still held even when only the current one is listed.
